BetaKit direct CEO interview — original WOMBO app closure ↗ · Checked 10 Oct 2026
Sources and verification
- Shutdown
- BetaKit’s September 4, 2024 article directly interviews founder and CEO Ben-Zion Benkhin and explicitly reports the original app’s completed 2023 closure. The displayed date is inferred from this dated report, not a claim the app operated until September 2024. This is the independently named original selfie-to-lip-sync iOS/Android app; WOMBO Dream, WOMBO Meme, the company and w.ai continue outside the closure scope. AWS’s customer interview independently establishes its AI workflow, cloud processing and Toronto operator location. Launch coverage gives late February/March 2021, and earlier beta history is not established, so no exact first launch day is assigned. Actual cutoff day, original shutdown-announcement day, hour and time zone remain unverified. Closure source
