    Sources and verification
    Shutdown
October 20, 2011 is the actual service-discontinuation day: the original FAQ specifies that day, and AllThingsD’s November 9 report, which independently confirmed the company transaction and cites original user-notification reporting, explicitly reports that Yap Voicemail was discontinued on October 20. The original archived FAQ retains future tense even in a later capture; passage of its planned deadline alone is not treated as completed closure. The original announcement day, cutoff hour and time zone remain unknown. Scope is the complete independently named iPhone/Android Yap Voicemail application and service, not Yap’s wider Speech Cloud, carrier integrations or all company technology. The FAQ says callers would receive an unavailable-voicemail recording and users needed to restore their carrier voicemail. The separate company acquisition is not the closure evidence. Original pages identify Yap Inc. and list its North American headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina; no coordinates are inferred. Closure source
